DOTHAN, AL – This month Wesley Place on Honeysuckle reached its 50th Anniversary of enriching the lives of older adults in Dothan and the surrounding areas. The retirement community first opened its doors in September of 1968 to 120 individuals in two levels of care. Now, 50 years later, the community is a true continuum of care life plan community with accommodations for 222 people in five distinct care levels.

This year has already been a banner year for Wesley Place on Honeysuckle, having received a 2018 Bronze Commitment to Quality Award in June from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, as well as a Certificate of Achievement in August from Atom Alliance for reaching a quality measures composite score of six or lower from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

“When it comes to the composite score for CMS, the lower, the better,” said Liz Prosch, RN, the Vice President of Quality and Mission Integration of Methodist Homes of Alabama & Northwest Florida, which is the parent organization of Wesley Place on Honeysuckle.

“Without getting too technical, CMS calculates a composite score based on scores of 13 different publicly-reported care quality measures in a long-term care community,” Liz explained. Some of the reported quality measures include the percentage of incidents of pressure ulcers, incidents of falls, and the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications.

Liz observed that what brings about positive quality results like these recent awards are the people who are committed to quality. “We are very proud of what the team at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle has been able to accomplish this year,” she said.

Plans are in the works to set a date for a public 50th Anniversary Celebration party at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle sometime within the next 12 months.
