Dear Fair Haven Family and Friends

November 20, 2017

What a wonderful celebration! A sincere ‘Thank You’ to all of you who came to Fair Haven’s Open House & Dedication event on out Friday, November 17. It became standing room only in the living room, on the staircase, and on the marketing welcome center balcony. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, nor better speakers and guests.

(L-R) India Bailey (Chief of Staff for Hunter Williams, Birmingham City Councilor District 2), Rev. Wayne Vickery (Resident & Retired UMC Minister), Joan Dawson (Family Member and Active Volunteer), Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett (North Alabama Conference of the UMC), Dan March (Fair Haven Executive Director), Earnestine Thompson (Fair Haven Residential Administrator), Hunter Williams (Birmingham City Councilor District 2), Mayor Randall Woodfin (Birmingham Mayor), Suzan Doidge (Executive Director, Mountain Brook Chamber), Christopher Tomlin (President & CEO, Methodist Homes of Alabama & Northwest Florida), Mayor Stewart Welch (Mountain Brook Mayor), Steve Shields (CEO, Action Pact), Robert L. McKee III (Chairman, Methodist Homes Board of Trustees), Casey Culbertson (Architect, Action Pact), Hunter Benton (Project Manager, Golden Construction), Geoff Golden (President, Golden Construction), and John Matson (Alabama Nursing Home Association).

November Spotlight…A Grand Celebration

Approximately 500 people turned out to take part in Fair Haven’s historic dedication event and enjoy the food, fellowship, and the Open House. We were honored to have Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett take part in the ceremony. Her leadership is pivotal in the North Alabama Conference and we couldn’t imagine a celebration without her. Also key to this historic day was the presence of Steve Shields, CEO of Action Pact, the design and consultation firm responsible for the Household Model, and the organizational and physical redevelopments at Fair Haven and at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle, a sister community in Dothan, Alabama. Steve has become a good friend these last 10 years, and his leadership is instrumental to our transformations. We are very excited that a number of city leaders as well as business partners in the Fair Haven project made time in their busy calendars to be with us. But most importantly, we cannot understate the significance and importance of the residents and family members who joined with us in unveiling the “new” Fair Haven to Birmingham.

Although a huge chapter in the life of Fair Haven has just come to a close, we are not done yet with Fair Haven’s conversions. We are soon to open the memory care assisted living household, which many of you took the opportunity to tour. Soon afterward we will begin the transformation of our existing nursing care wings into neighborhoods by tearing down nurse’s stations and installing kitchens, dining rooms and other spaces that reflect home. In addition, our organizational training continues as we seek new ways to make life meaningful for our residents each and every day.

I have enjoyed writing to you throughout the past 22 months, and will occasionally write to you again as our journey continues. But until then, it is with great pleasure that I bring this series to a close by wishing you and your family all the Blessings that this Holiday Season brings! Thank you for your continued support of Fair Haven

Very truly yours,
Christopher W. Tomlin
